Silver Star is a roller coaster located at Europa-Park, a theme park in Rust, Germany. It is currently the tallest roller coaster in Europe with a height of 239 ft (73 m), placing it in the hyper coaster category. Although is one of B&M's tallest coasters, it will be surpassed by a new coaster coming to PortAventura in 2012 as the tallest in Europe, and being both surpassed by Canada's Wonderland 2012 new coaster,Leviathan which will be the tallest coaster Bolliger and Mabillard has ever built to date. Signs in the queuing area claim a maximum speed of 130 km/h with a maximum of 4G vertical forces. Silver Star has 3 trains which seat 36 people each, giving an hourly capacity of 1,750 passengers. This hypercoaster is situated in the French quarter of Europa Park and is sponsored by Mercedes-Benz.
Silver Star features no inversions but many hills and helixes. After the first drop, the train travels leftwards and up onto the first camel back(1), and then a second. The train performs a 180 degree return in a hammerhead element(2), then continues onto another camel back followed by a mid-run brake segment(3). A 270 degree upwards helix(4) brings the train back under the lifthill and onto one last camel back. A banked S-bend brings the train to the on-ride photo and final brake run.(5)
Nearly every camel back is fitted with a speed 'trim' device to regulate the train's speed. The original friction-brake trims made the ride uncomfortable for some riders, however these have been refitted with magnetic trims.
